The Kherlen River
The Kherlen River Valley boasts a natural and cultural heritage worth discovering. This unique area preserves some of the world's most endangered ecosystems and biological diversity.
It represents a specific historical space and time with a deep cultural, artistic, and scientific value. The ethnic groups of Khalkh, Buriad, Barga, Uzemchin, Uriankhai, and Hamnigan have all played a significant role in the establishment and development of the country, creating a distinct nomadic culture, knowledge and traditions that have been passed down through generations.
The Kherlen River is the region's longest and most distant tributary, making up 54 percent of the Pacific Ocean basin. In contrast, the river basin covers an impressive area of 107,517 km2, which amounts to 6.8 percent of Mongolia's total land area. The Kherlen River has 1264 km, and 1090 km flows through Mongolia.
